Online File Storage

Until recently, if you or your students wanted to transport files between school/college/university you had to use a portable storage device device such as a USB stick or floppy disk.

The disadvantage of using such devices is that they can get lost or damaged - not good if they contain important coursework or project work.

Thankfully there are now a number of websites that give you free online storage - using one of these you can upload the files you wish to transport and then re download them once you get home, or vice versa.

On this page you'll find two of my favourites, Dropbox & Windows Live Skydrive.

Dropbox

Dropbox gives you 2 gigs worth of free online storage which should be more than enough for most people (although you can purchase more via one of their paid plans).

The nice thing about Dropbox is that it works on Windows, Linux & Mac systems and integrates itself seamlessly into your desktop - making it really easy and intuitive to use.

Windows Live Skydrive

Skydrive gives you 25 gigs worth of free online storage, all you need to access it is a Hotmail account, and most of your students will already have one of these either because they use MSN messenger or play online via Xbox Live or Games for Windows Live.
