Image Editing

The links on this page will take you to free online image/photo editors that you can use to enhance/crop your pictures before using them in your documents or on your VLE.

Although there are many options that you can use, here I've picked five - each has it's own use depending on what you want to do with your pictures.

Click on each link to visit the site in question:

On-line Services

  • Rsizr - An easy to use on-line image resizer, if all you want to crop or change the size of an image then this is a great solution.

  • Picnik - A quick and easy site for simple editing & cropping of your photos.  If you are new to image editing then this is the one I'd recommend you start with, it's quick and easy to use plus provides great results.
  • Dr Pic - Another free and easy to use online image editor that runs using Javascript as opposed to Flash or Silverlight.

  • Pixlr - For more advanced users, it's like a web based version of photoshop and well worth a look if you need finer control on how your images look.
  • Sumo Paint - Free image editor SUMO Paint is a nice clone of Photoshop's major features inside a browser window, for those who want more precision and tools than offered in most free Flash-based image editors.

  • Falcon - Designed to work as a standalone editor or for use with its screen capture Firefox extension Talon, Aviary's Falcon lets you edit text, crop, rotate, resize images, and more, all within your browser.  You can watch a video of Falcon in action here.

  • Pho.to - This site has many free options and services that you can make use of to edit, enhance and present images.  I especially like the 3D gallery maker.

For Off-line Use
  • Google Picasa - Google picasa is a piece of software that you must download and install onto a computer.

It is similar to Picnik but because it is not web based it is only recommended for your home computers, if you are in work then Picnik should always be your first port of call.

  • Paint.net - This is fantastic free art package that provides you with many of the tools that you'd get in Adobe Photoshop, try it!
