If you are more familiar with virtual worlds or have requirements that Google Lively cannot meet then the Second Life platform should be your next port of call.
Although it is more complex and has greater hardware requirements it provides many more learning opportunities than Google Lively, it can also interface directly with Moodle thanks to the SLOODLE project.
Second Life (aka SL for short) is 3D virtual world, which is created by its residents allows users to socialize, connect and create using voice and text chat.
Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown and today is inhabited by millions of Residents from around the globe.
Because of it's size and versatility Second Life is my current top pick for institutions who are serious about cutting a path with Education 3.0.
