4. How to start using bundled characters and change textures Drag and drop any model you see from the “Trunk” on your right-hand sidebar. There are three main categories i. These are humanoid figures. Clicking on the “Puppets” tab shows the current actors. Selecting the other tabs “Creatures” or “Misc” shows more choices. i. These give various objects that can be used for sketching-purposes. There are some vehicles, basic shapes and some miscellaneous objects. i. The “Backdrops” tab contains buildings, sounds and other objects. W, S, A, D (Quake) keys are used to move the characters around. i. W makes the character move up ii. S makes the character move down iii. A makes the character turn left iv. D makes the character turn right Other than these basic keys, there are more movement keys that might prove useful. i. Up-Arrow key makes the character move up ii. Down-Arrow key makes the character move down iii. Left-Arrow key makes the character strafe left iv. Right-Arrow key makes the character strafe right v. Page Up key levitates the character up vi. Page Down sinks the character down vii. SHIFT + Left Arrow key tilts the character left viii. SHIFT + Right Arrow key tilts the character right ix. SHIFT + Up Arrow key tilts the character backwards x. SHIFT + Down Arrow key tilts the character forwards Using several of these keys together gives results like turning somersaults (W + SHIFT + Down Arrow key) First Person, 3rd Person, Fixed Camera, Show All i. Right-click in the game area and select “1st Person View” ii. Click on any objects’ Puppeteer Cross to attach it to that object. i. Right-click in the game area and select “3rd Person View” ii. Click on any objects’ Puppeteer Cross to attach it to that object. i. Right-click in the game area and select “Fix Camera” ii. Click on any objects’ Puppeteer Cross to attach it to that object. Now the camera will be attached relative to that character – like a side-scroller. i. Right-click in the game area and select “Show All” ii. This zooms the camera out till all the objects in the world can be seen. a. Right-click in the game area and select “Wall Building” b. Click on a point and then move the mouse to another point to see how the wall will look. c. Click to confirm the wall. a. Select any object and press “Enter” b. This makes the model throw little yellow spheres 9. How to select/de-select multiple objects a. Press CTRL and click on any object’s Puppeteer’s Cross b. You can see that you are over the character if the character lights up c. Selected characters will have colored Puppeteer’s Cross. d. Unselected characters will be white You can do any actions with a character(s) and then replay the same actions. a. Press V to start recording. b. Do any action(s). c. When done, press B to replay the animation. d. You can press G to stop animations for all selected characters. e. To stop a particular character, just click on its Puppeteer’s cross. f. You can also move the character anywhere before starting the animation. a. Zoom out – Scroll Up with the mouse wheel. b. Zoom in – Scroll Down with the mouse wheel. a. Select “Backdrops” from the sidebar. b. Select “Sounds” from the sub-tabs c. Press the “Play” button to play that sound. d. Press the “Stop” button to stop a current sound. a. If you have Sketch-It-Up installed i. Go to [sketch-it-up_ROOT]\game\assets\models You can put in your models under “puppets”, “props” or “backdrops”. The folders in each of them represent a tab. You can use whichever folder you want and the model will show up in the corresponding tab in the tool. Naming Rules – Important Under the folder of your choice, make a new directory that’s named with two numeral digits, eg. – 07, 08, 99 etc You can put your egg file directly in the folder. Or, if your model has multiple textures, then create a new folder under the “xx” folder called “textures” and place your textures in it. Animations must be placed under the folder “animations”. By default, any model can use a walk animation – titled “walk.egg”. You can use one other animation which can be activated in the tool by pressing the spacebar. This animation can have any name. b.
