Teach the Teachers
Summer Institute 2007
Integrating Technology
into Core Content Areas
|
Teach the Teachers is a fantastic week-long summer professional development opportunity that incorporates effective lesson design, best practices in the core content areas and integration of instructional technology tools. It allows teachers to work with a partner from their school during a week in the summer and collaboratively develop a successful unit of study that focuses on district literacy goals and integrates video and multimedia. This year, the TTT program will be: o Non-residential. o Held in both Edmonds and Seattle for the teachers employed in those districts.
In order to participate in this program, teachers must be able to meet the following requirements: o Complete and turn in all registration materials by the May 11th due date. o Be able to attend one entire week of summer sessions with their partner (same week) o Develop either one multimedia or Webquest project in a collaborative manner with a partner teacher from the same school during their Teach the Teacher session.
Multimedia with Video Technology has given us the ability to present information in formats that combine sound, text, image, and movement. Communication of this sort is known as multimedia, and it offers several opportunities for class instruction. First, it inherently taps students' multiple intelligences. Second, by creating presentations students can communicate ideas. Third, students love it!
Webquest Participants in this class will gain the knowledge, skills and tools to draw on Internet resources for classroom and professional use. They will learn the basics of Internet Explorer, conduct effective searches, evaluate Web sites for usefulness and validity, select resources to enhance the curriculum, and promote critical thinking. They will see examples of innovative ways the Web has been used in standards-based classroom projects. They will also learn the basics of publishing on the Web using the Questgarden online publishing tool.
Over the course of this class, each team of educators will develop and publish a classroom Webquest project. Webquests are inquiry-oriented activities that draw resources from the Web. Webquests are designed to use learners' time well, to focus on using information rather than looking for it, and to support learners' thinking at the levels of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.
