The purpose of this website is to develop a comprehensive resource on the subject of teaching revision and editing.  This website will be most useful to student teachers and any other teachers who may be looking for assistance with how to teach this important process to English Language Arts students.   This site features recommendations, research, lessons, reproducible handouts, really anything and everything related to the sound and progressive teaching of revision and editing.  I view the revision and editing process as comprising four basic areas:  editing for style, form, content, and conventions.  And I devote significant resources and energy to the discussion of each.

I believe that the ability to self-assess and revise is central to the process of becoming a sophisticated writer.  I have done significant research on this subject and credit every source which has inspired me or which I quote directly.  Many teachers don't feel the need to directly teach revision and editing to their students.  I provide research that demonstrates the effectiveness of teacher involvement in this process.  I believe that we can teach to the need and provide authentic and meaningful opportunities for students to develop the skills they will need to write clear, coherent, cohesive and rhetorically effective prose.  There are sites all over the web that can link you to information about conventions and usage, that offer grammar lessons, and peer revision models.  This website will bring everything together to form a comprehensive and effective methodology that can be used by all inexperienced teachers as a stepping stone toward progress in this critical area of the writing process.

I believe that writing is revision and revision is writing.  Revision is a process of creation, a recursive and holistic exercise.  As a result you can expect the text on this website to change as I myself continue to explore new meanings and work toward greater clarity.
