Quizlet

Quizlet is a great site for practicing your vocabulary!

This is NOT our homework website! I am not really able to see your scores, work, practice, etc. However, if you like using this website as a means of practicing our class vocabulary, feel free. If I have time I will try to upload our vocabulary to this site.

SETTING UP AN ACCOUNT
  • First, open up another Internet window (so you can keep these instructions handy) and go to quizlet.com (there is no www).
  • Click on “sign up” and enter your information, and click “sign up” again. You need to enter a valid email address because you'll have to open an email to activate your account. Quizlet promises not to give out any of your information. Make sure to write this down somewhere, and write down that it goes with quizlet.com, as you will use multiple web sites for Spanish class.
  • Click for the free Quizlet.
  • Go to your email account, open the email from Quizlet, and click the link. Now, you should be on the Quizlet main screen and your account should be activated..
  • Towards the top and right, in the gray bar is a search option. Search for "Capital High Spanish." I don't think you need quotes. It will look like your search didn't bring back any results, but in the middle of the screen should be a link that says "Groups." Click that.
  • Now you should see a link for "Capital High Spanish I." Click that and then click the "Join" button on the right side of the screen.
  • You will be able to practice vocabulary "sets" with a number of different and fun activities.
  • Whenever you log back into Quizlet, you'll be able to click on "My Groups" and practice your vocabulary. You can even make/find your own sets of vocabulary to practice, for Spanish or for your other classes.
IMPORTANT SETTINGS
  • The first thing you may want to do is to click on "Settings" at the top right corner of the page and uncheck the group alerts and email updates so that you don't get an email every time I add vocabulary sets to my Quizlet account.
  • The next thing you should do is to click on "My Groups" and then click on any of the vocabulary sets under "Title."
  • Then, under the flashcard click the "Test" button.
  • Towards the middle of the screen, click on the words "Show Symbols/Accents" and then "Customize Symbols." This will allow you to click to delete all the symbols you WON'T need for Spanish.
  • On the right side, click on everything EXCEPT á é í ñ ó ú ü
  • On the left side, scroll down and click on the ¡ and the ¿ and then click the "Save" button. Now you'll be able to use accents when needed.
FLASHCARDS
  • Now try going back to "My groups" and clicking on a set of vocabulary you want to practice.
  • The first thing you can do from a set page is to practice with the flashcards. You can either control the flashcard with the mouse, or if you're tired of clicking away with your mouse just use your up/down arrow keys to flip the card and your right/left arrow keys to go to the next one.
  • At the top of the flashcard you have the options to go in order, or at random, as well as go Spanish first, English first, or both on the card at the same time.

THE GAMES
  • "Scatter" is a really easy matching game in which you drag and drop the terms over their definitions.
  • "Space race" lets you type in an answer to shoot down the word before it gets to the end of the screen.
  • "Test" lets you create your own test to practice the words. You might want to click on the "When grading, ignore..." options on the right of your test so that the computer isn't so picky about those things. You can even reconfigure it to make a test type you like.
  • "Learn" is for practicing typing the vocabulary. English to Spanish is probably the hardest of this, but the best. Remember to click on "Show symbols" for this activity, because it has to be 100% correct (darn computers!).

ALSO FROM THE MAIN PAGE
  • You can also print the vocabulary list, print flashcards (you'll have to tape or staple them together), as well as do a few other options.
