What's New for 2012

posted Jan 9, 2012 5:37 PM by Carton Lao   [ updated Jan 20, 2012 9:40 AM ]

For 2012, we are pushing out a number of new features, making the system more secure than before.  A number of features are for organizers' accesses, but there are also a number of new looks for online registration and public accesses.
  1. Now you can directly access the tournament and view the results, instead of viewing pdf files generated after the fact.  Just wait for a tournament to be archived, then select the tournament and click "GridView" menu item.  Then right click any event and select the available view.  Just allow pop-up from this site when your browser initially disallow it. [item being worked on is to allow earlier viewable access, for example, right after the tournament.]
  2. The system now supports the major browsers; most recent versions of Firefox, most recent versions of Chrome, and version 9 of Internet Explorer.  IE8 or less still works via a different link, with reduced functionality.
  3. The first time an existing player name is entered to start a registration of any tournament, the system will ask you to enter a password and confirmation.  Once that is established, any access to the registration entries for that player name MUST be authenticated with the same password.  There is no recovery of passwords, so please make sure you remember the password.  The password is only good for that particular tournament only.
  4. Before a submission of registration is allowed, the registrant must enter a unique string displayed (ala captcha system), otherwise the system will continue to ask for matching input string.  This is to prevent internet robots to hack into the system.
Now for the organizers:
  1. A new subsystem to manage club re-assessment list.
  2. Play format is now available right at the draw page, saving time to go into customize events to change the format, before a draw can take place.
  3. There's a host of minor bugs fixed, mainly in those parts of system that were not used often, like double knockout, and retracking knockout scorings.

Even Easier Online Registration

It is now even easier to do Online Registration in terms of doing verification.

Instead of re-visiting the site again, and entering the passcode sent to you in an email, now you can simply click the link provided in the email, and your entries will be verified.

In addition, a list of the events you had entered, and a list of the events you were put in a waiting list are listed out with all the other charges.  You can print the page out and you will know all the details about the events you are in.

ttcan.ca May 1 cycle new players' gender settings resolved

posted May 13, 2010 11:06 AM by Carton Lao

When the May 1 rating cycle came out in early May, the gender settings of all AB new players were set to blank.  The default gender search is male, and the result list will not contain any of the new players.  If you had set the gender search to be both, then you will have success.

As of today, May 13, 2010, the May 1 rating cycle had the gender settings corrected.

Sorry for any inconveniences.

2010 Alberta Open successfully completed last weekend

posted Apr 28, 2010 7:20 PM by Carton Lao

Many thanks to a lot of volunteers, 2010 Alberta Open was completed successfully during the weekend of April 24/25, 2010 in Notre Dame High School gymnasium.  This year, 139 players in Alberta (Calgary, Edmonton, and Lethbridge) and one from Saskatoon registered for the tournament.  They competed in 29 events in total.  After 533 matches (454 singles and 79 doubles), the dust settled with Open Singles Finals where Philip Xie defeated Roxana Pao to close out the tournament.

Xiang Gui, president of the Bow River Table Tennis Club in Calgary, would like to thank ATTA, sponsors (Nxt Energy Solutions Inc., Optimal Solutions Ltd., Good Earth Cafe, and Steven Fung Table Tennis) and especially all participating players and their supporters to make this a memorable tournament to round out the 2009-2010 ATTA season.

Now that the last tournament of the year is over, all players must now be continuing honing their skills for the upcoming 2010 Canadian Nationals Table Tennis Championships to be held in Calgary on July 11-18, 2010. Again, check the above websites for updates.
