Serving the Greater Binghamton, NY area since 1947 The Triple Cities Hiking Club (TCHC) features a year-round hike schedule for all levels of abilities and interests
Typical Sunday afternoon hikes include visits to local county and state parks, various state forests, and nearby sections of the Finger Lakes Trail (FLT). One should bring a small day pack to carry a quart (liter) of water, a snack, rain coat, and other clothing depending on the season. SATURDAY HIKES tend to be more difficult and are typically at least four or more hours long (ie -8 to 12 miles). These hikes will be held in
more distant areas such as along the farther stretches of the FLT or in
the Catskills. In winter, these trips will usually be for cross-country skiing
or snowshoeing. One should bring a day pack to carry two quarts (liters) of water, lunch and snacks, a rain coat, a personal first aid kit, and other extra synthetic (non-cotton) clothing depending on the season. Sturdy hiking boots with a pair of sock liners and a padded pair of wool or synthetic socks should be worn. Most hikers also use hiking poles. WEEKEND TRIPS to the Adirondacks, Appalachian Trail, and other similar areas are also sponsored by the TCHC throughout the year. Be sure to contact the trip leader well in advance of any weekend trip to review the equipment and gear that you will need to bring. DINNER MEETINGS are held each year in November and April, generally on a Friday evening.
