Effective salespeople develop an intense curiosity for the opinions of their prospects.  Strengthen your questioning skills to enable you to become good at "drilling down for oil".



To be a great leader you must first learn to be an effective follower.  This is the essential ingredient to "leadership by example".


"MBWA" = Manage By Walking Around.  Visibility is one of the most effective leadership tools.  I don't mean that you should be looking over the shoulders of your team, rather, you should make yourself available and let them know you are interested in their success.


If you want to be an effective Sales Manager, work more on your people skills than your selling skills.


In selling, avoid questions that illicit an "autonomic" response.  For example, the greeting, "Can I help you?' is almost always met with the response, "No, I'm just looking," thus making any further interaction difficult.  Try using more pleasing greetings such as "Thanks for coming in today," or "Hi, how's your day?"  And always be prepared to listen to the responses.

"Family comes first" and "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care" are two things you will often hear me say.


Why? Because I firstly believe very strongly in balance... in all areas of life.

Too many times we define ourselves by our work instead of who we are.  And if we spend enough time meditating this reality we can start to open our thinking to all kinds of possibilities.

What I really mean here is that we should all look on the inside first... the inside of our minds, the inside of our home, the inside of our relationships, the inside of our faith; the list goes on.  Only then can we develop a true sense of who we are and make some important decisions about where we are going and what we mean to other people along the way.

OK... enough of the soap box.

Professionally, I am a business coach, mentor and trainer and online guru who focuses on assisting businesses of all shapes and sizes to improve their results and profitability.

The early part of my career included several years selling life insurance and superannuation (it doesn't get much tougher than that) and here's what I learned.
  • People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.
  • It doesn't matter how many economists you put in the same room, they will never reach consensus.
  • Help enough people to get what they want and you will get what you want.
  • And (thanks to Yoda)... "try not, do or do not, there is no try".
In the mid 1980's to early 1990's I enjoyed the privilege of being an Instructor with Dale Carnegie Training and through that association was able to touch the lives of many people in a way that is truly inspirational.  Helping people break through their limiting beliefs and become more self-assured carries its own special reward.

Establishing my own consultancy (now known as Performance Impact Pty Ltd) provided me with the opportunity to delve even more deeply into the causes of the various factors that inhibit performance and develop some exciting and cutting edge strategies for businesses to overcome adversity.  The Consultative Selling Skills Program became the jewel in the crown of the various methods of assisting businesses on the path to self-improvement, greater turnover and increased profits.

To this day I continue to successfully use the Diagnose-Migrate-Consolidate strategy with enormous success.

And lastly, in recent years, I have assisted many people with leveraged marketing strategies to enable them to set up independent income streams and help the free up some valuable time to spend with family and friends doing the things that matter most.
