Our river is changing. Be informed and be heard.

As part of a proposed plan to build a new bridge over the Tawatinaw River and a new Highway 55 and Highway 813 interchange in the riverfront area of the town of Athabasca, Alberta Transportation is planning to straighten or “realign” the naturally occurring bend in the Tawatinaw River flood plain where it meets the Athabasca River. This plan will change the face of Athabasca. 

Please consider this website a work in progress through which we can all help each other to make informed choices about our living town and the future of our natural heritage. We urge town and county residents to educate themselves about this project and to make their views known to the elected officials through our letter campaign.

Empowerment of individuals and families is integral to the empowerment of communities. Individual community members who recognize their strengths and abilities, and who are competent in their capacity to assume control of their life situations, are necessary for the empowerment of communities.  Community empowerment moves beyond individual change to embrace broader social and political actions to create changes in society.
