Jul. 20, 2009 - The last of the books
As most people would know, when we were still in Boston, we conducted a book drive with Tatenda Foundation. Our goal was to collect books and distribute these to schools in Banket. We collected over 10 boxes from children's books, hard cover fiction to textbooks. Unfortunately the logistics of mailing the books to Zimbabwe and the cost did not justify the project after we had already collected these books. Things were getting worse by the day in Zimbabwe. We solved some books for about $48 to the Harvard bookstore in Cambridge, MA. The rest of the boxes we loaded onto the Uhaul on our move from Boston to Virginia with hopes that someday we would send along the books.

We finally found other places that will still further our desire: to educate or provide for literacy programs in the world. We donated over 4 boxes to the CRA International July 2009 Book drive. The books will be donated to Books for America. We then donated another 2 boxes to the Central Rappahannock Regional Library, Salem Church branch. The books to Salem Church were mostly all the hardcover fiction and the readers digest which will be sold and raise funds for Library activities and programs. All textbooks, the last of the books we had in our home were donated this past weekend to the Salvation Army store in Fredericksburg, VA. The Salvation Army store staff seemed very excited about the textbooks. "We will take them!"

While our original goal was not met, we believe we still made a difference and will continue to serve in all possible ways. [I have some pictures to be posted later to show some boxes with these books].

Many thanks to all the people that supported us in this project from California to Boston! Thank You. TATENDA.

Feb. 7, 2009 - Tatenda expands scope
In a filing with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Tatenda Foundation expanded the scope of its operation to include providing food and services to orphaned children in the community of Banket and other target areas. In partnership with VisionaryClub Banket, we sponsored a Christmas Party for children that would otherwise not have anything for Christmas (or any other day). Plans are underway to provide funds and books for the academic year 2009.

Nov. 8, 2008 - iRun for Them: A Marathon to raise 'additional' awareness on Zimbabwe's plight
Following our successful half-marathon campaign in 2007, our people are returning to the long distance course, and this time to run a full marathon for Zimbabwe.

The goal for this marathon is to launch a marathon campain to begin in January 2009 that will mobilize runners to raise funds in behalf of Tatenda Foundation and other organizations working in Zimbabwe.
