Fishes

Since April 2006, I have photographed and identified 441 species of fish in TARP, including nearly 500 different colour morphs.

CHECKLIST
  • My latest personal checklist in MS Word format can be downloaded here.
  • A more comprehensive collaborative checklist (560 identified species by 17th July 2009) which I moderate can be found here.

IDENTIFICATION
Every fish and colour morph has been given its own identification panel and loaded, sorted by family.
  • For those fishes which tend to SINK when not swimming (i.e. they are neutrally buoyant) click here.
  • For fishes which SWIM easily because they are neutrally buoyant (even though some will touch the bottom sometimes) click here.
Feel free to skim through these identification panels to help you with your own identification queries. In due course, I would like to produce a field-usable guide to all the fishes.

DISTRIBUTION
I am gradually uploading my fish photos with dive site coordinates to allow both double-checking of my identifications and an idea of fish distributions within TARP; I will post a link when I have made some significant progress - at the moment it is really only a trial as it takes so much work.

LINKS
I have found the following sites excellent sources for helping with identification:
FishBase
FishPix
Poppe Images
Other sites which are occasionally helpful are:
FISHWIZE
Deep Sea Images
Starfish
SEADB
