Wikipedia is the largest encyclopedia on the planet. Launched on 15 January 2001, the web-based encyclopedia has currently 262 language editions. Despite being the 7^th largest language in terms of total speakers,  Bangla is not well represented in internet. Information and knowledge in Bangla on the web are poor in number than what it should be. Furthermore in order to transform our nation into a technologically advanced and to materialize the dream of digital Bangladesh, enhancing the presence of Bangla language on the web is an inevitably provident and significant factor. We can effectively contribute to this matter be creating and developing articles in Bangla language in the Bengali Wikipedia (http://bn.wikipedia.org). There is no encyclopedia in Bangla other than the Banglapedia which is only about Bangladesh and Bangladesh related topic. So developing the Bengali Wikipedia may lead to the creation of the largest ever encyclopedia in Bangla. This will also help Bengali people throughout the world to get access to information and knowledge i n their mother tongue. This is a splendid opportunity to present the prodigious realm of knowledge to billions of Bengali around the world.

Anyone having access to internet can contribute to this sublime activity. To create or develop articles, one needs to open an account in Bengali Wikipedia. There are some rules and regulations for writing articles in the Wikipedia, so the new Wikipedians (who contribute to the development of Wikipedia) should go through the instructions right after registering their account. Articles about any arena of knowledge can be written in Wikipedia. But one should consider that the topic he is writing about is significant enough to be placed in an encyclopedia. An excellent way for writing articles is to translating the articles of English Wikipedia into Bangla as the English Wikipedia is incredibly enriched. There are only about 20,500 articles in the Bengali Wikipedia whereas the English Wikipedia consists of over three millions of articles. At first phase of contributing to Wikipedia, the Wikipedians are called Editor. Editor who has crossed 3000 edits and competent is promoted to Administrator rank. Administrators have some special rights which the editors do not have. There are several ranks above the administrator as well.
