About Tangy and Me Tangy started in 2005 when I decided to take jewellery-making more seriously. I make jewellery because I love jewellery. I enjoy every part of the process; designing it, crafting it, perfecting it, wearing it and watching others enjoy it. I've always been a keen crafts person. I started origami when I was 3, Lego when I was 5, model motor cars when I was 7 and when I was 10, a friend of mine introduced me to the world of beads. From there on I was obsessed, seed bead monsters, polymer clay roses and now lampwork glass. I make all of the jewellery in my home workshop (the study and tool shed) in South Australia. Each piece is designed and carefully handcrafted by me. My inspiration and influences come are from micro and macro images of nature, people, toys, furniture, wallpaper, Australian and Asian culture and all the little things that I observe in my everyday life. For a long time, I had not considered selling my work but as the pieces accumulated, I no longer have room in my wardrobe or enough space on my arm, neck and ears to house them. The dilemma is, however, that I still enjoyed spending time designing and making jewellery. So now, I design jewellery for other people so that my creative energy can be stored elsewhere. My friends at Acacia Arts encouraged me and helped to start me on my way. And the name "Tangy"...well...like the flavour, its just a little bit out of the ordinary, a combination of sweet and sour tingle, with the bonus of it being a play on my name Cecilia Tang. |
