New Academic Journey of Pingbo

posted ‎‎Jul 6, 2009 6:00 AM‎‎ by Pingbo Tang

I will join the Mapping and GIS lab at Ohio State University this Fall, and start to work on research projects related to computer vision based robot localization and navigation, and spatial data management.

Cloud Computing

posted ‎‎Apr 22, 2009 7:26 PM‎‎ by Pingbo Tang

Seems interesting stuffs, like buses, shared by many people. It is very good for reducing energy consumption, since it might not be necessary for buying a computer for everyone, while normally only 30% (or even less) computational resource on those personal computers are used by people who own them. Sharing computational resources in a dynamic manner is a more environment friendly solution: every one only need a client machine, which consumes very little power, and the real computation works should be done on shared super computers. In that way, utilization of computational resources should increase substantially.

A shared computational infrastructure can save money, energy, for a sustainable future.

Human Computation, Collaborative Information Seeking, and Theory Foundation of Construction Design Management

posted ‎‎Apr 21, 2009 4:03 PM‎‎ by Pingbo Tang

A very interesting talk about human computation (Human Computation) stimulates my interests about how to combine the intelligence of human beings and computer, the information flow in construction management domain is so complicated, and the mixture of human-network and computer-network might be of great potential for collaborattive information seeking for fast and intelligent construction project monitoring (collaborative search).

Just today, I found this thesis, which I should have read many years ago, which is talking about the theoretical foundation of construction design management (http://leanconstruction.org/pdf/P408.pdf), human network, product, computer network, and workflow, how all these things can be formalized together so that we can have a more organized, intelligent, resilient, and robust approach for delivering buildings and infrastructures with less consumptions of the resources, and less emission of waste. That will be beautiful, for a sustainable future.

Extension Mechanism of Operator Library

posted ‎‎Apr 9, 2009 7:10 AM‎‎ by Pingbo Tang

Now I developed mechanisms for extending an operator library. With this mechanism, users can pick any operator (geometric algorithm modeled as an operator class), and my algorithm can automatically generate a template for user to configure a new class inherited from the picked operator class.

CRC 2009 Best Paper Award in Organizational Issues, Risk and Safety

posted ‎‎Apr 9, 2009 7:06 AM‎‎ by Pingbo Tang

I got this award at Seattle on April 7th, and I wish this will be a very good start for people to accept intelligent workflow as a tool for AEC

I have created automatic forwaring from my CMU webpage to this page

posted ‎‎Oct 14, 2008 10:14 AM‎‎ by Pingbo Tang

I have decided to move from CMU web page to this site, since there are so many good stuffs here to help me to keep the site organized and funny.

I created a nice personal webpage for me
