Items of Interest

On this page we will include various Items of Interest to members, including places we eat, charity walks and other items as we progress.
Some of the articles will have been submitted in what's known as PDF format (Portable Document Format) and hence you'll need a suitable viewer installed in order to view the report.  Most of you will have one installed but if you have a problem reading them, drop us a line using the Feedback form and we'll endeavour to help you to overcome the problem at hand.
There are numerous ones on the market other than Acrobat, all free and generally smaller and a lot quicker than Acrobat.  I use the alternatives and prefer them in general.  It's up to you which you use.  If in doubt, ask!

This is our regular lunch venue following 10pin Bowling and we've always had good food and friendly service here.

The Globe Inn - Lower Gungate

We tend to visit here before the Monthly meeting when we have been out and about in the morning.  Good lunch venue.

That Special Evening Meal

The Peel Hotel - behind Dominoes Pizza on Aldergate
Christopher's Restaurant and Menus
Tel No: 01827 67676
A group of 8 went to this restaurant on Sat 29th October and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Well cooked and beautifully presented. We would quite happily revisit this establishment. It's a small place and you are advised to book before turning up unannounced.

The 4 Guys present the Cheque to Amita Patel from Midlands Air Ambulance

... and a Certificate to go with it!

Certificate for the Donation of £500

1. We'll kick this section off with a little 7mile plus 'hike' in Dovedale, on the 29th June 2011, entitled
"A trip to Dovedale - or Four Men on a Hike".

This trip came about as a few of us fancied a longer walk than the usual ramble and we were prepared to travel further afield.  We have talked about it for a while but never got round to doing it for whatever reasons.  Then one day, David Hinds came up with a date and the rest is history so to speak, and documented as per article!

2. Following on from the above walk, we did a 10+ mile hike, again in Dovedale, but this time we did it for charity, the charity being - The Midlands Air Ambulance.

To date, 21st September, we have collected £500.

If we missed you and you'd like to contribute then we are quite happy to take your contribution!

If you haven't been approached and would like to donate then please contact any of the four guys that did the hike and they will add your name to the list and collect your contribution.

If you would like to read an account of the day's events then see the article entitled "Charity Walk in aid of the Air Ambulance".

The 4 guys concerned included David Hinds, Dave Prophet, John Thompson and Alan Wiseman.
