There are so many things you can do with while reading the book. Teachers and librarians can ask questions, have the children play games, do quizzes, and write more to the story. The following is some activites that can be used to engage the child while reading.
Google Document-This Google Document contains some questions and vocabulary words from the book. Also a picture that can be used to write a story with
Quia-This is a website where you can make quizzes or games on any topic you choose.
You can use these or make up your own. Vocabulary is a major part of the book, in fact the narrator frequently asks the reader to look up certain words and character names usually mean something. These would be easy to make a quiz or hangman or any of the other items you can make with this website.
Draw Despereaux-Read the first chapter of the book without showing the readers the pictures of Despereaux. Have them draw what they think he would look like. Learn how to do this here.
Make Character trading cards-This is really simple to do. Follow instructions here.
Like these two applications? Find some more at Read-Think-Write.
Wordle-Wordle is a great site where you can make word clouds out of any group of words you want. All you have to do is type in the words and it automatically formats for you. A fun easy way to be creative. See how to make one here.
Write an end adventure-At the end of the book the narrator does not go into what happened with Despereaux. Instead the narrator says it is another
story. Have the readers come up with their own adventures Despereaux can go on. You do not need an online application for this just a pen and pencil!
