 Examples of  Blogs in schools
In this blog, sponsored by the St. Petersburg Times, the superintendent and other school district stakeholders hold an online discussion.
Bob Lewandowski's blog. Look at the August post for an example of a video message from the superintendent embedded in the blog. Interesting!
Dobbs Ferry School District Superintendent Blog.
This blog shows how a school leader might want to handle comments.
This is an example of a school district level blog. In this blog, a variety of different school personnel are able to write and post to the blog.
This superintendent keeps a weekly journal.

Some observations/suggestions about school leader blogging
  •  Decide on a schedule and work hard to stick to it. For example, you may want to start with what seems to be a reasonable schedule such as once a month. This will allow you to judge the time commitment. You can always post more frequently later.
  • Think carefully about how you will monitor comments. For example, you may want to consider not allowing comments or  have comments monitored before posting. Here is an article that tells about a superintendent who stopped a blog due to negative comments.
  • Edit! Edit! Edit! The last thing you want are mistakes in your blog posts.
  • Look for opportunities to post about the positive things that area happening in your school district. So many good things go on in schools. Many times, these good stories go unnoticed.
