Shiang-Jiun Chen, a professor at National Chiayi University, graduated from Columbia University with a doctoral degree. With extensive experience and credentials in education, arts, statistics, technology, and pharmacy, she has designed and integrated numerous cross-disciplinary projects in the arts and sciences in the United States and Taiwan. She worked as a Media and Creative Arts Specialist at Columbia University. She taught creative arts and health science in universities. For the Department of Health in Taiwan, Dr. Chen developed nationwide health promotions through interdisciplinary strategies and multimedia/technology. Also a freelance artist, her work in dance, music, photography and children’s theater has been performed and exhibited in New York and Taipei. She is one of the executive directors of this 88 fund-raising project.
Fantine Cheng NeFes Oriental Arts Troup is one of the most active art-pursuing dance teams in Taiwan. We devote ourselves to the oriental culture including history, choreography, music, costume...etc., trying to contribute toward the artfield nowadays. The Artistic Director Fantine Cheng, graduated from NTU History and also Drama & Theater and is now studying in NYU Performance Studies is one who challenge combining the post-modern visual arts with dance.
Tiffany Chern was born and raised in New York, embracing both Taiwanese and American culture each and every day. She holds a bachelor’s in music management from Baruch, and is now working at Shapiro, Bernstein & Co. Music Publishing. She also does part-time at First Health Physical Therapy and is also a PTR Certified Associate Tennis Coach. Virginia Chang Chien was born in Kaohsiung city, Taiwan and has been studying music since age of six. She received her Bachelor degree in Music Performance from Fu-Jen University in Taiwan and was the principal oboe or co-principal oboe in the school Symphony Orchestra and performed various concerts in different groups. Currently she is studying Master degree in Music Performance at the Aaron Copland School of Music of Queens College under Professor Hamburt Lucarelli. Virginia has performed as one of the principal oboes in Queens College Orchestra and Queens College Chamber Orchestra in three different occasions. In February and April 2009, Virginia performed as a principal oboe for the concert “An Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Gala Concert.” in Riverside Church and the concert “ Czech Masterwork My Vlast” in Bohemian National hall, respectively. Recent and upcoming activities including: a winner in the Festival Eleazar de Carvalho competition in Brazil this July and is invited to play concerto next year; this fall, she will hold her graduation recital and concert tour in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Paul DeJonge A performing artist from latter teens. Trained professionally in drama, singing (voice) and elocutionism. Have appeared on stage internationally in the East and the West. International teacher and educator by vocation. Peace Ambassador with the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification. Living in Manhattan, New York.
Yo-yo Fann born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1987, completed his undergraduate studies in Violin Performance at DePaul University, studying with Ilya Kaler. In Fall 2009, Yo-yo will be attending the Juilliard School for Masters Program, studying under Masao Kawasaki. In 1999, Yo-yo began musical training at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College division under the tutelage of Keng-Yuen Tseng. In 2004, Yo-yo joined the Juilliard School Pre-college division, studying violin with Stefan Milenkovich, the assistant of Itzhak Perlman. Yo-yo won several competitions and awards in Taiwan, New York, and Germany, including the Regina Rubinoff Award at Steinway Hall, the Manhattan School of Music Preparatory Division Concerto Competition, the Taiwan National Youth Competition, and “Best Sonata” at the International Violin Competition for Violin at Kulturstiftung Hohanlohe. Yo-yo has participated in Aspen Music Festival, Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute Festival, Summit Music Festival and Atlantic Music Festival. He enjoys playing the violin very much.
Sharon Fann born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1986, is currently a master student in the music education program in New York University. She has been a piano faculty at Musipire Professional Music Education since 2003. In 1999, she came to study at the preparatory division of Manhattan School of Music and attend Professional Children School in New York City. At that time, she majored in piano and studied with Miyoko Lottoa and Adam Kent. In 2003, Sharon participated in the Perlman Summer Music Program which was founded by a well- known violinist, Itzhak Perlman, in the world. In 2004, she attended Baruch College, City University of New York and graduated with a bachelor degree in Management of Musical Enterprises in 2008. Judy Hung is a master student in the arts education program in New York University. She is often invited to dance for performances in all kinds of celebrations and ceremony. Jenny Li is eleven years old. She has been studying piano for two years at the Musipire Professional Music Education. She has a lot of passion in helping out the charity concert and hopes her playing can help Taiwan. Therisa Li is a junior in New York University majoring chemistry. She is also a volunteer in New York Hospital Queens.
Cindy Lin is currently a student in Baruch College of City University of New York. She was born in Taipei in 1990, came to the United States in 2004. In 2006, she started learning piano and guitar from her friends in church, now is playing both instruments at church services. In this Taiwan 88 flood charity, Cindy is a performer, flyer designer, video maker, and decorator. Katherine Liu (劉冠佑) was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. She moved to New York four years ago after her sophomore year in National Chengchi University. Graduated from Baruch College with a Bachelor degree in Finance this summer, she is now working at a financial services company.
Kenneth Liu (劉冠良) just received his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from State University of New York at Stony Brook. He is from Taipei, Taiwan. He came to New York in 2004 to study. He hopes his voice can help the victims of 88 Flood through this charity concert.
Mark Lu is currently studying at Fashion Institute of Technology majoring in Fashion Merchandising Management. He will be a senior in the upcoming semester. He is originally from Taiwan, Taipei. He moved to Nigeria when he was 12. In 2006, he moved to New York for college. He loves surfing, cooking, shopping, drinking, clubbing and watching movies.
Gloria Shih, Pianist, was born in Taipei, Taiwan. Ms Shih won her first piano competition at the age of eight. She has subsequently received many awards including First Prize in the Taipei Piano Competition, Second Prize in the Taipei chamber music competition, and First Prize in the Schimmel Piano Competition. She has appeared in numerous solo and chamber music performances throughout Taiwan. Ms. Shih earned her Bachelor’s degree at Soochow University where she was a protégé of the renowned Se-Se Chang. Ms. Shih received her Master’s degree at the Mannes College of Music as a scholarship student of Lilian Kallir. She then won a scholarship to study under Christina Dahl at Stony Brook University and graduated with a doctoral degree from Stony Brook in May, 2005. Ms. Shih serves on the faculty of Montclair State University and Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory of Music.
Kurt Tan is a wonderful person from Malaysia. He has studied architecture in Malaysia and in University of Melbourne in Australia. Then, he finally set foot in New York. He is currently running a small architecture firm partnering with contractor and real estate agent. He loves music and he plays guitar and piano, both not professional but good enough for him. He used to be a very handsome guy, but American cheese made him spoiled. Now, he is a old fat person with a very lovely and beautiful girlfriend on his side.
Elizabeth Tin came from Taiwan and is the Vice President of Baruch's Taiwanese Student Association. She loves to sing during her spare time. She is really grateful to be part of this charity event and see so many people all come together as one unity to help the victims in Taiwan. She wants to take this opportunity to show her love to her home country and hope the performances today can touch everyone's heart. Byron Wu is going to be a senior at the Great Neck South High School. Looking forward to become a song writer/producer, he studies not only various instruments such as piano, guitar, and drums, but also the most novel music technology equipments and software. He performed his own music and chamber duo in Carnegie Hall, and Steinway Hall many times. Also, he wrote a song “Human Defect” in 2006 that became the theme song for a website funded by the Fu-Bang Fund that promotes global warming. He produces a variety of original music in different genres and won the 2008 “Best Song” from the Recording Academy’s New York Chapter at Grammy Career Day. Andy Xu, born in the province of JiangSu, China, immigrated to New York in 1999 and subsequently enrolled in a local junior high school and later Newtown High School in Queens. Upon graduation, he was admitted into Baruch College, CUNY and studied Finance and Investments and Economics. Recently graduated, he is expected to join a financial service firm in New York this autumn. During his free time, Andy enjoys volunteering and reading. Andy had been volunteering with Cents Ability Org to conduct financial literacy workshops in dozens of public high schools in NYC. He recently organized and taught his second 10-week summer SAT prep program for new immigrants students from his alma mater high school. Lawrence Yan is an undergraduate student at the Baruch College Honors Program majoring in Finance & Investments. He had singing experience by participating in many charity events and as a part-time wedding singer. Currently, he is working for a boutique investment bank called Violy and will graduate in 2011. He hopes to share his passion in music with others while helping out the community and the people he cares for.
Lan-In Winnie Yang has enjoyed successes not only as a pianist, but also as a composer. Ms. Yang received her Bachelor’s degree in Piano and Composition from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Master’s degree and Professional Studies Diploma in Piano from the Manhattan School of Music, Master’s degree in Composition from SUNY Stony Brook. Ms. Yang’s recent performance activities include the performance of Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.2 with the Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra under the conductor, Jeffrey Milarsky, solo piano recitals and chamber concerts, in which she has played several of her compositions, in New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, Hong Kong, The Netherlands, Taipei and Kaohsiung Taiwan. She was a two time winner of the Taiwan National Composition Competition, Taiwan National Piano Competition, JOC Youth Composition Competition, and AOJOC International Composition Competition in which her composition “Piano Concerto No.1” was awarded the first prize. Currently, with a full scholarship and teaching assistantship, Ms. Yang is pursuing her Doctorate degree in Piano with Gilbert Kalish, and Ph.D in Composition with Perry Goldstein and Peter Winkler in SUNY Stony Brook.
Amy Yang is passionate drummer who self-taught playing drums in her leisure time aside from her CPA study. She wants to use her courage of first time performing as a drummer to show her care and support for the typhoon victims in Taiwan. Hope the audience can be touched by her performance and come together to help Taiwan with reconstruction after Typhoon Morakot. 義演者簡介
范詠喨 1987年,出生於台灣台北市。目前畢業於DePaul University主修小提琴演奏。今年九月即將就讀紐約茱莉亞音樂院研究所繼續深造小提琴演奏。范詠喨贏得多項小提琴比賽,包括德國Kloster Schontal 國際小提琴比賽 最佳奏鳴曲詮釋演奏獎 、 紐約Steinway Hall 的Regina Rubinoff Award比賽第一名、 紐約Great Neck Young Artist Competition第二名、曼哈頓音樂院先修班小提琴協奏曲比賽第一名、 台北市國小組小提琴比賽第一名、 桃園區青少年小提琴比賽第一名。 陳香君 哥倫比亞大學教育博士。喜多領域的結合發展,曾任醫院藥師、公務員、企劃、課程設計與教學、創意藝術與媒體專家、中文學校副校長等,現於大學執教。喜愛視覺與表演藝術,曾參與音樂舞蹈劇場與兒童劇之表演與設計。其以攝影音樂舞蹈戲劇呈現之多元藝術作品曾於紐約與台北展演。為籌辦本次88賑災活動之總幹事之一。 本活動賑災帳號為Citibank #9955503808, 募款於現場除收現金、支票(Check made payable to Taiwan Charity,寄至Taiwan Charity, 212 W 91ST ST #230, New York, NY10024)外,於義賣項目另可上網付款。捐款匯整後,將敦請中華民國駐紐約經濟文化 辦事處協助轉交中華民國紅十字總會。 Special thanks to all the staff, volunteers and to all participants and everyone else who helped make this event possible.
