Globe of Peace Shiang-Jiun Chen, 2009
Embracing peace can be experienced simply as sharing happiness with all our friends around the globe.
Experiencing a joyful mood while constructing the piece, the artist played with PiKAPiKA light painting to create a cheerful graffiti-like rhythmic “peace” above the globe. The hope is to let more viewers experience peace and happiness within.
Clear the Mind, Connect for Peace Shiang-Jiun Chen, 2003/2009
Human minds sometimes are easy to cloud up. To clear them, we all must reach across the oceans and continents to connect with each other for peace.
In the center of this piece are the Chinese characters for “peace”. “Clouds” placed aside symbolize the move under clouded minds (i.e. bombing, war, hatred…), which hamper us from embracing universal peace.
