Travel Information

By plane

There are relatively few flights in and out of New Haven’s tiny Tweed airport (all to/from Philadelphia on USAir), but it is convenient. If you are arriving there, take a 10-minute taxi ride into town. For more information, go to: http://www.flytweed.com/

Otherwise, you have two choices.  One is to fly into Hartford/Springfield (Bradley airport). From there, you can take the Connecticut Limo shuttle to New Haven. You can reserve a round trip ride to and from Phelps Gate on the Yale Campus via the link or you can do so at the Ground Transportation desk upon arrival. In the worst case, the waiting time may be 1 hour or more, and the trip to New Haven can take up to 2 hours (though this is exceptional). An alternative is to rent a car instead, since it is an easy drive on I-91 South to New Haven. Parking will be available on the campus, and you can request it on the registration page

Alternatively, you can fly into New York (Kennedy and La Guardia, or Newark airports). If you are not renting a car, you could again take the Connecticut Limo, but the trip can take up to 4 hours, depending on traffic and which airport you care coming from.  A cheaper alternative is to take the airport bus to Manhattan (Grand Central Station) and from there the train (Metro North) to New Haven (on the New Haven line). If you rent a car instead, you will drive from JFK to New Haven via the Van Wyck Expressway, Whitestone Bridge, and I-95 (2-3 hours, depending on traffic).

If you arrive by Connecticut Limo in New Haven at Phelps Gate, it is a fairly short walk to either the Omni (directions) or the Swing Space (directions).

By train

From New York, take the Metro North train (New Haven Line) to New Haven's Union Station. Trains go about every hour, more often during rush hours. Roundtrip tickets are $28 (off peak) and $37 (peak).

From elsewhere, you can take the Amtrak train to New Haven. Trains go about every one or two hours.

From Union Station in New Haven (where both Metro North and Amtrak arrive) you may take a taxi to your hotel; it will cost only a few dollars. If you arrive during daylight hours and prefer to walk, here's how to get to the Omni and here's how to get to the Swing Space

By bus

Greyhound Lines offers regular bus service to New Haven; buses arrive at Union Station (the same train station discussed above).

By car

New Haven is accessible by car via the I-95 and I-91. (From New York, you may also wish to take Route 15, known as the Hutchinson River Parkway in New York and the Merritt Parkway in Connecticut, which is more scenic and somewhat less busy, depending on the time of day; Directions can be found here or at the usual sources.

The addresses for the Omni and Swing Space are as follows:

Omni New Haven: 155 Temple Street, New Haven, CT 06510
Swing Space: 100 Tower Parkway, New Haven, CT 06511

The conference will take place in Linsly-Chittenden Hall, Room 102.  The address is 63 High Street, New Haven, CT 06511. You should enter LC from the southwestern corner of Old Campus

Street parking around the campus is possible, but it is metered from Monday through Saturday and limited to 2 hours. Registration for on-campus parking at the Pierson Sage Garage is available for $8/day through the conference registration page, but you will also be able to park with Omni (at a rate of $20/night). Given the proximity of the Omni to campus, you’re much better off leaving your car in the parking lot (wherever you end up parking), rather than driving to campus on each day of the workshop.  On weekends (after 4:00pm on Friday, actually), Yale's Lot 51, located inside the block bounded by Wall, Temple, Elm, and College Streets, is free and open to the public.  Lot 51 is accessible from Temple Street, which is one-way southbound (entrance on the right between Wall and Elm).
