Idea: Since the development of recent graphic software, we started to have the idea that traditional linear animations might not be enough to entertain people any more. We are obsessed by interaction graphics and also like playing with original characters and setting them in their own world.
Having huge interests in animation based on surrealistic fiction, therefore, we could easily find what we want. Our work is an interactive virtual band named Harley and Davidson. We set several basic stories , such as having the characters on a space music tour. We then made their first series "Harley and Davidson Space Tour 2011." Joohee made animations based on our fiction. Taezoo coded interactions, which changed the properties of them, which responds to the volume of the actual concert sound. In June 2011, Harley and Davidson successfully showed up their performances with a couple of bands in Brooklyn. We made this documentation video as a great first step of our virtual band Harley and Davison. |
Digital Being - Version 01 |

Idea: This is a series of my thesis, Digital Being. This Digital Being -- version 01 is generated from a combination of digital data from every digital device. The creature is living in digital devices, thinking, hiding, and developing itself. It can detect human behavior through its sensors. If somebody is in the area of the sensors, it stops its action in the digital devices and hides itself. The digital devices appear as usual and people cannot notice there is something happening. When you leave home, the creature, Digital Being, may be sending your information from your desktop computer, secretly. From now on, you have to be suspicious of your digital devices, such as laptops, desktops, and smart phones.
Interactive Installation: Through my interactive installation, I want to tell my fictional story, in which Digital Being exists and can control your computers, causing people this situation. Among the computers, there are lasers and sensors called photocells. One laser beam faces one photocell. It can be a simple switch. If somebody stands between the laser and the sensor, the switch is off. I use Arduino board to send the signal to the computer. The signal decides the behavior of Digital Being. |
