The Sea Scout Ship 110 - Charles
N. Curtis is a program of the Boy Scouts
of America, Pacific Harbors Council. This program was established 77
years ago on the Foss Waterway and is dedicated to serving young men and
women 14 years and older.
Sea Scouts help young people who are
skilled and talented but lack financial resources. These youths are
the future leaders and contributing citizens of our community.
Through supporting the Charles N. Curtis, our youth are supported in an education journey that explores the marine environment and that, with adult mentoring, develops character, leadership, citizenship and goal-setting based on strong ethical values in a safe, drug-free environment. Sea Scouts was recently able to expand its services to reach a greater number of Tacoma youth. This was due in part to the scholarship funds provided by the Tacoma Propeller Club, which financially supported 40 percent of our youth either in full or in part. Sea Scouts is a volunteer organization without administrative overhead or wages. All of its resources are invested in the youth of our community. Thanks to the Tacoma Propeller Club, they are able to continue serving our community. In 2011, the Charles N. Curtis Ship 110 earned First Place this weekend as Tacoma’ Flag Ship during Tacoma Yacht Clubs Marine Daffodil Festival. The young people shown are receiving the award. The ship members are Katie Smith (also a Daffodil Princess) Stephanie Devenny and Tony Oliver. |
