Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are endless. ~ Mother Teresa
Hello all!
My name is Theresa Olson, Miss Olson or Miss T. I grew up in a small town just south of Grand Rapids called Caledonia. Though it is not so small anymore, it's home and I love it. I attended Caledonia High School and graduated in 2004. I am engaged to the love of my life, Tyler, who also is my high school sweetheart. Our wedding is set for September 19, 2009 and we just can't wait! I have one sibling, a big brother named Cory who is ten years my senior. He recently married my sister-in-law, Lisa and our family was blessed with two, as she had one son named Alex.
I decided to attend Western Michigan University when I was a Junior in high school but wasn't quite sure what I wanted to study. It wasn't until my Senior year when I took Senior English that I decided English Education was the profession for me. I began my studies at WMU Fall of 2004 where I met some of the most amazing people in the entire world. GO BRONCOS! I conducted my pre-internship at Hillside Middle School where I worked with 8th grade Language Arts and met a lot of great people while learning the art of teaching. Fall of 2008 I was a student intern at Caledonia High School (my alma-mater) and had a joyous experience. I learned a lot about teaching that semester, more than I ever thought possible!
During my college years, I created some incredible friendships that are sure to be special for many years to come. I also worked at Curious Kids in Portage for three years while taking classes and living off-campus. I worked with Kindergarten aged children and they taught me more about fun and life than any book would have ever done.
I fell in love with writing at a very young age. As a child I would write poetry about my stuffed animals, dolls, my family and adventures in my backyard. I would create short stories using Grandma and Grandpa's old fashioned typewriter of a young girl's traveling adventure across the U.S. As I grew older, I would use poetry to cope with painful events in life as well as happy moments. I found poetry to be my voice in dealing with Grandpa's death from Cancer and Uncle Mike's tragic drinking and driving accident. Poetry was a way for me to express my thoughts and feelings because anyone who knew me, knew I was an extremely shy young lady.
Some more about me...
I grew up as a HUGE Michigan fan - GO BLUE! When we lived in Michigan, my fiance and I would attend at least one football game a season. We loved making the annual Ann Arbor trip to get our Wolverine fill for the season, and of course a stadium hot dog! In fact, the home-opener of the 2008 season, he asked me to marry him.
I have two dogs, but only one lives with us here in California. Scout (left)who is named after the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, lives at home with my parents. Bruiser (right) is the newest addition to our family and we adopted him this summer from a rescue organization right here in the Bay Area.
Traveling is one of my favorite new hobbies! I've been to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with my fiance and future mother-in-law. I look forward to many more experiences in travel as my mother-in-law is a fantastic travel agent!
