We are constantly looking for new motivated people bringing new ideas and work with the team be it in Sydney or Brisbane. We list a few potential projects below, but feel free to just contact one of our members if you are interested. Ph.D. student using high resolution fMRI (Mark Schira) As part of our ARC project grant "Application of High Resolution functional Brain Imaging to the Topographic Organisation of Object Perception" we have funding providing a stipend for a Ph.D. student. The project will investigate the retinotopic organisation of early visual and higher visual cortex (i.e. areas V1 through hV4, lateral occipital cortex, MT, fusiform gyrus) using cutting edge fMRI and analysis procedures. The project also investigates interactions of retinotopic organization with category based organisation such as object category, letter or face perception. The project will also employ our strength in mapping the foveal confluence (http://www.jneurosci.org/content/29/28/9050.short), allowing retinotopic investigation of highly specialized tasks such as letter recognition relying on foveal vision. We are looking for a highly motivated student with interest in perception and human brain imaging. Existing computer programming skills (such as MATLAB) are not strictly required, but applicants should feel confident and ready to acquire them. Depending on the interests and skills the work can focus on a computational or perceptional perspective. This project will be located in Sydney at the Neuroscience Research Australia in cooperation with the appropriate school at the University on New South Wales.
