The first full month of football season is underway.  We covered 85 games in the first 31 days.  This shot was taken during pre-game warm-ups at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Arizona on August 27, 2010 as the Chaparral Firebirds get set to defend their 5AII State Championship.  Chaparral beat Gilbert High School on this night and is averaging almost 45 points per game thought their first four games.

Our Piece of History
Game 1275 - June 5, 2004

Just like we did when we wrote our newsletter years ago, we will be featuring a memorable game from our 17+ years covering amateur and professional sports in Arizona, the Southwest and around the United States.

Over the years we have covered dozens of players that have gone on to play college and professional sports.  This game featured what we believe to be our first ever reality television contestant.

One of the skills that most play-by-play announcers have is an ability to remember names.  Dozens have stood out for me over the years.  While watching Big Brother (a summertime vice), one houseguest's name sounded familiar.  Already knowing that he grew up in Arizona and played baseball in high school and college, I started digging through old scorebooks.  I ran across the name Hayden Moss.

The game was the Arizona Baseball Coaches Association Class 3A All-Star Game played at Brazell Stadium on the campus of Grand Canyon University.  Hayden went 2-for-2 with a double and walk in that All-Star Game and his play earned him the right to play in the Super 50 All-Star Game two weeks later at Bank One Ballpark (now Chase Field), the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Good luck, Hayden!
