November Saturday the 12th saw the 4th installment of the SuperCross Cup, as leader of the 'B' league a good grid position was award to Glenn Wearen. Unfortunately, a bad start saw Glenn drop to 12th position going into the 1st corner and on a tight technical circuit that left little room for overtaking, Glenn had to dig deep to make any progress up the field. Going into the last lap, Glenn was running in 7 position, largely as a result of being one of the few to stay upright throughout the race. Another three places were made up by the finish of the race giving Glenn enough points to maintain the league lead. Photo's of the event are up on Flickr. Here's a short documentary of the event...

Hot on the heels of his 5th place in Rivervalley (now officially confirmed), Glenn rode a strong race to take 3rd place in the B race in Corcaigh Park on Saturday 5th November. Peter Doyle finished in 12th. Many thanks to WORC for organising another great race. Pictures are courtesy of www.stickybottle.com and the video is by Caroline Martinez.
Glenn on the boards.
The third round of the Supercross Cup was held on a course which favours the powerful riders. Where the Swords course was hilly, Corcaigh was flat. Where the Swords course was flat, the Corcaigh course was even more flat, if that's possible.
Peter, about to muck up another remount.
Thanks to his efforts in Swords, Glenn was given a gridded position and he took maximum gain for it by going from the gun and gaining a good lead with some fast chasers behind. Realising that going too far into the red too early is dangerous in cross, Glenn eased off and a lead group was formed.
The attacks were destined to come and when some riders made a big effort, Glenn decided to follow and gave it another dig. Nimbly avoiding the spills of a fellow chaser, Glenn found himself in third place. With first and second place a foregone conclusion, it was time to secure third. And so he did, putting the hammer down so as to gain a comfortable margin.
Showing that hard work eventually pays off, Glen advises that this is his first trophy in 21 years of trying.
Peter didn't fair as well as he did in the Swords race, suffering on the long straights which featured heavily in the Corcaigh course. His gridded position was lost in the usual mele which announces the start of any cross race. This saw him slip back to 15th or so. Some big efforts saw him get up as far as 6th by the second or third lap, with the leaders just a few seconds ahead. Alas, it was too much of an effort and one which could not be sustained, so he slipped back to a group of 4 or 5 others who were battling to sneak into the top 10.
Peter at the finish. Not looking too fresh.

In the B cyclocross race on Saturday 22nd, Peter Doyle and Glen Wearen finished 4th and 5th respectively. Brian Crinion wasn't far behind in 12th place. For some reason, Glen doesn't seem to have featured on the official results sheet, but he was certainly 5th rider across the line on the day.
Thank you to Kevin McFeely for the photography.
Glen almost made the catch.
Organised by Team WORC in conjunction with Swords CC, the race was held on a very testing course in Rivervally. Designed by Dave O'Neill it favoured riders who like the steeper terrain. With only a couple of short sections on the flat, the riders were either grinding up hills or negotiating tricky off camber corners on descents. Needless to say, the race was not without spills with Brian having to pick himself up more than once.
Without the benefit of gridding, our riders started further back than they would have liked, but they put in a strong performance to gain places. Both Glen and Brian made good gains in the first few laps, maintaining positions near the fore of the field. Fearful of fading in the latter half of the race, Peter started cautiously, preferring to make gains steadily. As the race progressed and riders started to fade on the last couple of laps, Peter moved up to 7th place. Another spill from Brian gave him 6th, so he set his sights on Glen who was in 4th. Making his move on the steep tarmac climb, Peter got a gap over Glen and consolidated it with the twists and turns that followed.
However, Glen was not finished and a late surge on the final drag to the finish saw him bring the gap right back with Peter only narrowly holding on to 4th place thanks to some shouts from the crowd.

Report by David O'Neill
Round 1 of the Stevens Supercross Cup was held on October 9th in Brackenstown. The day went very well with a large field of riders travelling from as far away as Cork, Belfast and Tullamore.
The weather was perfect with a strong wind adding to the challenge of making time up on the groups ahead. The ground conditions were dry and dusty making for close exciting racing. Thanks to all the Marshals (Sean Halpin, Doug Corry, Laura Banfield, Mike Donohue, Jason O Callaghan and Eoin Ryan). Doctor Conor did a fine job as medic, and Paul Deans was Grand Master of Ceremonies. Thanks to Kevin Mc Feely for liasing with the Council, thanks to Jason for the medals, Joe Mc Nally for the barriers, and Mark Burns for helping to build the course on the morning. Finally, thank you to Tom Blennerhassett for the video and Laura Banfield for the photographs.
