Scale Models by Thomas Muggli Ever since I was a kid growing up in Switzerland, I've been fascinated by the Swiss Air Force. I remember watching Venoms, Hunters, and Mirages (right) streaking over my parent's house towards Duebendorf airbase near Zurich. About that time, I started building 1/72 scale plastic model kits which I bought at the local toy store. Now, a few decades later, as a modeler living in the USA, I have combined my two interests, of Swiss Air Force airplanes and model aircraft by building a collection of 1/72 scale plastic models of Swiss Air Force aircraft. The majority of model kits are manufactured from styrene plastic by injection molding. There are injection molded kits available of most historically significant aircraft, but manufacturers will only produce kits of aircraft which are famous enough to generate sufficient sales to allow them to make a profit. Many of the aircraft flown by the Swiss Air Force don't fall into this category. For this reason I build many of my models from limited-run plastic and resin kits, or even build models from scratch. You can see many of my models on the Gallery page. Because I enjoy sharing my experiences, I write articles about my projects. Some of them have been published in model-related websites and magazines. I welcome your feedback! If you have any question or comments, please drop me an e-mail at imfalcon62@aol.com ! |
