Info on Penguin Team

The Penguins Swim Team engages in a multi-level competitive program with the National YMCA that, like our training programs attempts to provide challenging, yet sucess oriented compettive situations for all swimmers of all ages and abilities. The Penguin coach expects all team members to attend swim meets. The Penguins are a competitive swim team (not swimming lessons) and swim meets are one way we measure the progress of our swimmers. Team members are welcome to attend as many meets as they like. There are meets that meet the needs of all our swimmers from the very novice to the Olympic hopeful.
We emphasize competition with oneself. Winning ribbons, medals, or trophies is not our main goal. Even if a swimmer finishes first, but has swum poorly in comparison to his/her past swims, they are encouraged to do better. Remember our team motto, "MAKING MY BEST BETTER!" Our program is built upon two areas 1) Build a strong aerobic base, and 2) build a strong knowledge of technique. There is little specialization in early levels. The swimmers train on all strokes and distances available for their age group. The senior's swimmers concentration is on all four strokes. This is a higher level of training program designed to take the swimmer to the limits of their ability. The program is focused on using various energy systems of the body throughout the season, to produce peak performances at championship meets.

2-WEEK TRIAL: A TWO WEEK TRIAL OF PRACTICE IS OFFERED. IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO CONTINUE AFTER TWO WEEKS, THERE IS NO FINANCIAL OBLIGATION

COST : Every Penguin Swim Team member must be a meber of the Eden YMCA. Beside the YMCA membership, swim team members have three(3) additional finanical obligations: (1) swim team monthly dues, (2) swimteam yearly registration fee, and (3) meet entry fees. Through these revenues the Penguins receive support for the coach's costs, pool time, practice facility, administration support and equipment.
