What is your child doing in music class right now?
KINDERGARTEN
We are preparing for our May 31st concert! We are learning songs and narration to show everyone what we have been learning this year.
FIRST GRADE
We are playing some cool instruments called "boomwhackers" and working with melody. We will also be playing rhythm and melody instruments in a "Mallet Madness" unit.
SECOND GRADE
We are linking music and science this month by studying sound and how it relates to instruments. Students will learn how different world instruments make a sound and be able to classify each instrument according to its sound. We are also preparing for our butterfly concert. We are learning songs, instrument parts, dances and narration for this unique music and science integrated concert.
THIRD GRADE
This quarter, students are practicing their music reading skills using individual bellsets. Students are learning to read, notate, compose and play treble clef melodies on their own melodic instrument. We are also beginning a unit of the orchestra family and the four instrument families that play in an orchestra.
FOURTH GRADE
We are continuing our study of the recorder through the "Recorder Karate" program. Students should be practicing at least 5 minutes a day. We are learning to read treble clef pitches and play them on our recorders in songs ranging from east (white belt) to more difficult (black belt). We will be performing a concert on May 23rd at 3:00pm.
FIFTH GRADE
We are participating in activities to study Motion and Design in Music. This is a science integration unit and part of our Specialist PLT Smart Goal. We are studying sound and music as a science. We will be experimenting with different instruments and notebooking our scientific findings. We will also spend one lesson in the computer lab completing some website activities on music and science. We are also learning pitches on the first three guitar strings and choosing songs to practice in class as part of a class concert later this month. |
