BiographySweta Sneha is an Assistant Professor at Kennesaw State University in the department of Computer Science and Information Systems. She has a doctoral in Computer Information Systems from the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park with Minor in Information Systems. Sweta’s research interests center around a wide array of technical and behavioral challenges related to an emerging field, “E-Health”, which lies at the intersection of information technology, healthcare and business. Within the e-health umbrella she is involved in conducting research in the following streams: wireless networks, organizational impact and business value of healthcare information systems, enhanced decision support systems, adoption/use of e-health services such as: Electronic Medical Records (EMR) by the physicians, and the corresponding improvement in the quality of patient care. The impact of culture and “digital divide” on the perceived value and decision to adopt e-health services is also of interest to her. She aims to leverage both explanation and design research methodologies in her research streams. For her dissertation, she applyied a design research methodology in exploring the challenges associated with ubiquitous patient monitoring (under the supervision of Dr. Upkar Varshney), which is widely seen as a viable option for cutting down escalating healthcare costs while providing quality care to an increasing patient population. Specifically her research focuses on the issues of power management and reliability of end to end transmission in the context of ad hoc wireless networks based patient monitoring.
She enjoys teaching and views teaching as one of the noblest profession second only to the profession of saving lives. She believes the ultimate objective of teaching is to help students reach their full potential. Her passion for teaching thrives on the moments when her students have the “aha!” experience. Her teaching interests include but are not limited to the following: programming, systems analysis design and development, health informatics/e-health, wireless networks, and business applications of telecommunication technology. Sweta has published several refereed papers in journals and IS conferences such as: AMCIS, HICSS, IEEE Broadmed, IEEE Communications, International Journal of Electronic Healthcare, and Decision Support Systems. She was the Track Chair for AMCIS 2009. She is a member of Association for Information Systems (AIS). She has been an invited speaker at the International Conference on E-Medicine, Cairo, Egypt with Detmar Straub. Prior to returning to academia, Sweta was an IT consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, one of the leading IT and management consulting firms in the world. In her personal time, Sweta enjoys creating art, dancing, biking and spending time with her family. She lives with her husband and son in Roswell, GA. |
