Performance Task: Identify and explain historical facts in the works of historical fiction.
Explain historical facts through a project. Be sure to include the Title of the book and a bibliography showing the sources you used to verify the facts you found in the story. Use the following examples of projects as a guide. (You can mashup multiple projects to create a new project. For example: Verify 3 facts and define 2 historical words)
__ Explore Further - Take ONE of the facts and find out more. Cite sources.
__ Prologue/Epilogue - Explain the historical events leading up to the start of the book and historical events that took place after the end of the book. Cite sources.
__ Time Period - Using your notes, explain what life was like during the time period of the book. Cite sources.
__ Before/During/After - Use a real PLACE from the book (town, city, state) and explain about the place before the story took place, then explain the importance of the place during the book and finally, explain what the place was like after. Cite sources.
__ Verify - Take 5 of your facts and prove they are true. Cite sources.
__ Define - Take 5 terms that have meaning during the time period of the book. List, define and illustrate their meanings. Cite sources.
__ Map - Create a map showing the travels of the characters in the book. Cite sources.
__ Both Sides - Find two different points of view of characters in your book. Compare, contrast and explain the points of view. Cite sources.
__ Take a Stand - Identify an issue from the story. Research the issue and explain which side you would have taken. Cite sources. __ Create a family tree for the main characters from the story. |
