Decisions Made:
- In order to start the worship service with a quiet time, we will put in the printed order of service, as well as saying verbally, something to the effect of "The Prelude begins our service.' The goal is to get folks to create a quiet time so everyone can listen to the music.
- On the Sundays when there is no Joys and Concerns (generally, the Sundays when Amanda is in the pulpit), there will be some way for people to write down their prayer requests. Amanda will incorporate these into a prayer, such as -- "We hold Johnny in our hearts as he goes to the hospital for testing this week."
- We will incorporate into the announcement time an ENTHUSIASTIC verbal description of next Sunday's service --"don't miss next week, when Jane Doe will present an exciting program on her work with wallabies!"
- In order to keep our UU identity always in our minds, as well as to educate newer UU's about our faith, we'll light the chalice every Sunday with a brief nugget of UU history or interesting fact (e.g., "We light our chalice today in the memory of Michael Servetus, who in the 16th century challenged the doctrine of the Trinity....We light our chalice today in honor of UU activists in Arizona who are challenging the new immigration law with acts of civil disobedience...")
- We’ll have a Celebrants training, called “Celebrants 101,” on October 17 after church, with snacks and child care, to expand our pool of Celebrants and make sure we are all on the same page. It will be FUN and USEFUL!
Action Items:
SANDI and RICHARD will research and develop a batch of “UU facts chalice lightings.” These will be put on the website for easy access by Celebrants.
SALLY and AMANDA will plan the Celebrants training.
AMANDA will draft a new “script” for celebrants and will send it to all Team members for approval and input.wi
AMANDA will put everything on the church calendar.
