Job description of each post:
1. President (P)
- Leads and coordinates the society;
- Acts as the society’s figurehead and represents the society in all events;
- Checks and approves all correspondence between officers and external parties;
- Chairs all committee meetings as well as Annual General Meetings;
- Serves as the first point of contact for the Director General of the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office (HKETO);
- Serves as the first point of contact for the Chairperson of the LSE Alumni Association in Hong Kong;
- Corresponds regularly with Presidents of relevant external and internal student societies;
- Endeavours to attend all HKPASS events;
- Responsible for the continuous development and expansion of the society;
- Attends regular meetings and trainings held by LSESU.
2. Vice President (VP)
- Assists the President's work and to take up the role of President in his/her absence;
- Serves as the first point of contact for the Alumni Group of Hong Kong and to work closely with their Chairperson;
- Maintains frequent contact and to cooperate with all other LSESU societies;
- In conjunction with the Social Events Officer, coordinates all welcoming events for freshers;
- Attends regular meetings and trainings held by LSESU.
3. Internal Secretary (ISEC)
- Responsible for administrating all committee meetings, including the confirmation of attendance, room-booking and the taking of minutes
- Drafts and sends out weekly newsletters;
- Keeps official record of all society documentation;
- Responsible for the society’s inbox (su.soc.hkpass) as well as the SU mailbox;
- Compiles and updates a Freshers’ directory
- Compiles and updates a directory of members, external partners and other contacts;
- Masters all online administrative programs, including but not limited to Groupspaces; Google Docs etc.
- In conjunction with the Publicity Officer, coordinates the society stall for Freshers’ Fayre;
- Supports and cooperates with the Secretary of Project of Hope, where necessary, to facilitate the Project’s functioning;
- Serves as the first point of contact for the LSE Students’ Union;
- Serves as the Subcommittee Administrator (including the coordination of subcommittee events/correspondence);
- Attends regular meetings and trainings held by LSESU.
- Proficiency in English and Chinese word processing and writing compulsory.
4. Treasurer (T)
- Oversees the society’s finances;
- Accounts for all financial transactions and the reimbursement of expenses;
- Prepares an annual budget application for the LSE Students’ Union;
- Presents an annual budget in the Michaelmas Term AGM;
- Prepares all documentation for later funding applications;
- Prepares and presents an end-of-year financial report upon handover;
- Serves as the Sponsorship Manager, to seek donation and sponsorship, in conjunction with the External Secretary
- Attends regular meetings and trainings held by LSESU.
5. External Secretary (ESEC)
- Promotes and publicises all society events, alongside the Publicity Officer;
- Supports the treasurer in seeking sponsorship;
- Unless stated otherwise, maintains and promotes good relations with all internal and external organisations, such as other student societies and HKETO;
- Unless stated otherwise, serves as the first point of contact for all relevant internal and external organisations;
- Proficiency in English and Chinese writing compulsory
6. Social Events Officer (SEO)
- Organises regular social events;
- In conjunction with the Vice President, coordinates all welcoming events for freshers;
- Responsible for all event refreshments, coordinating with other parties such as LSE Catering;
- Organises the annual Local and Cultural Trips.
7. Publicity Officer (PO)
- Chairs the Publications Subcommittee;
- Prepares all necessary advertising materials, including but not limited to business cards, gazebo, banners, brochures, posters, greeting cards, powerpoint slides;
- Coordinates or serves as photographer for society events and subsequent handling of event photographs;
- In conjunction with the Internal Secretary, coordinates the society stall for Freshers’ Fayre
- Serves as Chief Editor and Publisher of termly magazine Bling
- Serves as HKPASS Web Administrator, to maintain the society website as well as all Facebook-related pages;
- Skills in Photoshop and/or other relevant software preferred.
8. Public Affairs Officer (PAO)
- Chairs the Public Affairs Subcommittee;
- Organises regular Public Affairs events, including but not limited to public lectures, interviews, LSE HKPASS Forum;
- Serves as the first point of contact for the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London (HKETO);
9. Social Service Officer (SSO)
- Chairs the Social Service Subcommittee;
- Organises regular Social Service events, both in Hong Kong and the UK;
- Serves as the first point of contact for all social service partners and NGOs;
- Coordinates with LSE Volunteering Centre;
- Corresponds, where relevant, with LSESU RAG;
- Organises regular fundraising events e.g. Fundraising Week.

We will be hosting an informal discussion session with Sir David Tang who
is a Hong Kong-born entrepreneur best known for founding the
international clothing chain of Shanghai Tang. He is equally well-known
among celebrities all over the world, from politicians to film stars to
members of the British Royal Family. The details of the session are as
follows:

Many
describe Sir David as a relaxing, laid-back individual who is always
fun to be with. As such, the conversation will be kept informal so as
to facilitate an exchange of views on a wide range of issues from
British/Hong Kong politics as well as entrepreneurship in general.
No need to register in advance, just come along - refreshment will be served. See you there!

It’s fine even you are not really a big fan of table tennis, because this, you certainly cannot miss! The annual China Week badminton tournament is BACK in the hood! This tournament is open to everyone, either you are a badminton enthusiasts or a fan who wants to get stuck in and enjoy the atmosphere. Shuttlecocks are provided, but you will need your own racket. The winner and the 2 runner-ups will receive vouchers for one of the Chinese restaurants in China Town. What better way to celebrate the Chinese New Year than with a fun afternoon of China’s national ball because this is certainly off the hook! Open to table tennis enthusiasts (and fans) of all ages, genders, nationalities and athletic abilities. Balls are provided, but you will need to bring your own paddle. The first to third place winners will receive vouchers for one of the Chinese restaurants in China Town. Like our very own Victoria Harbour, the Thames requires some cleaning at times! The Thames 21 is an environmental charity which aims to transform neglected and littered waterways of the River Thames into areas that everyone, including wildlife, can use and enjoy. Now they are looking for volunteers to clean up the area near Bermondsey which is just outside Zone 1. You will be provided with the equipment required (e.g. boots and gloves). Along with our best-friend societies, HKPASS is co-organising the LSESU China Week 2010 which coincides with the first couple weeks of Chinese New Year! Expect activities like tongue twister competition, public lectures and photo exhitbitions which are to be concluded by a grand variety show organised by CSSA. While many of the details of these events are in their final stages of planning (so watch this space for updates next week!), we would like to draw your attention to the activities responsible by HKPASS: Table tennis and Badminton Tournament. Each year our society organises the LSE Forum - an inter-university debate involving some of the best universities in London and elsewhere. It is a great occasion to exchange ideas upon topics that revolve around heated and controversial social and political issues. Details of the competition are as follows:

The Parliamentary system housed in the Westminster Palace is one of the most unique political systems in the world and has directly influenced the constitutional progress of numerous countries and cities including our very own Hong Kong.
As such - we are organising a guided tour of the Parliament (including both the House of Commons and the House of Lords) - in which you will be enabled to visit the exact chambers where significant decisions are made daily! You will be accompanied by an experienced tour guide who is ready to answer any question you may have.

We hope to get some of you interested in the following, as a result of the 'Meet the AOs' luncheon session last term:
The Administrative Service Summer Internship Programme hopes to give Hong Kong students who wish to pursue a career in the Administrative Service of the HKSAR Government an early opportunity to get some hands-on experience of working in the HKSAR Government, so as to facilitate their future career planning. A recruitment notice has been put up on the CSB homepage (at http://www.csb.gov.hk under the section "What's New"), where the applicants can obtain more information about the Programme and download the application form.
Please be noted only students in their penultimate year are eligible. Applications have to be submitted by postal mail. Our deadline for applications is 29 January 2010. |
