A few summers ago I climbed this mountain. Asthmatic and certainly not as young as I used to be, it was a challenge bigger than I was sure I could finish. Toward the top I was thinking maybe it wasn't such a bright idea... maybe I should turn back.
I didn't turn back.
Standing at the summit, looking over where I'd come from, I reflected once again that the challenges that look the most daunting are the usually the most rewarding to overcome.
This summer, I took EDIT2000, and although the course didn't involve high climbs and loss of breath, it presented very similar experience. People who know me well have always affectionately referred to me as "Technologically Impaired". For me, every step of this technological journey seemed higher than the last, and I had to work harder to make the step that came next. However, just like climbing the mountain, each step also became a new foothold, where I could steady myself and take the next step forward. It has taken perseverance, intense concentration, a lot of time, and a will to overtake something new and bigger than I had ever tried before. Once again I didn't turn back, and now I am looking back over what I've done thinking "Did I just do that?" At the same time there is a voice in the back of my head asking what in technology world I can overcome next.
The contents of this website contain the steps I've taken on the path to understanding and implementing technology in education. While I know that there will be more and wider applications I'm going to have to learn, because technology evolves faster than we do, the prospect of expanding my horizons in educational technology isn't nearly as daunting as it was.
