Sermon on the Mount Assignment

Sermon on the Mount: Matt. 5-7

You and your team are going to research a section of the Sermon on the Mount:

We are also going to use this lesson to learn how to use Bible research tools, how to create a quality “power point” presentation, and how to use Google Docs to create that presentation. You will be reusing these skills later in the course, so use this time to learn them well. Mrs.Watts will be helping us with this project.

You will need a GMAIL account for this project, which you'll need to set up from HOME: https://mail.google.com

You must ensure the following is included in your presentation:

1. Title slide

2. Location information: either map based, or word based; describe the place/area where the Sermon occurred

3. Context: what is the historical/cultural background of the time, i.e. the setting (secular, i.e. Roman, and religious, i.e. Jewish).

4. A slide with your passage

5. Word study notes: for 2 significant words from your passage

6. Commentaries: include info from 3 different commentaries. This may take more than one slide.

7. How do #2-6 above help us better understand what Jesus is saying, and why he is saying it? What would his hearers have understood him to be saying/meaning?

8. Application: knowing what it meant to his hearers, what does it mean for us today?

9. Anything else you need to include that Mrs. B didn’t think of (insert in the most logical place in your presentation)

10. bibliography: all sources of information listed, correctly, for pictures as well as information, (make this your last slide).

11. Speaker's notes, where you can give more information than will be presented on your slide.
