Course Outline

The following outline will hopefully help you organize your time for this class. There is a lot of material to cover in one semester. I have noted an approximate timeline for each unit.
Unit 1: Canadian Geography               2 weeks
Unit 2: First Nations                            2 weeks
Unit 3: Canadian History until 1774     3 weeks
Unit 4: Enlightenment                           2 weeks
Unit 5: British Democracy                    2 weeks
Unit 6: Industrial Revolution                 3 weeks
Unit 7: French Revolution                    2 weeks
Unit 8: Russian Revolution                   2 weeks

Marking for this course will be weighted as follows:
In-Class Assignments:     20%
Current Events:               15%
Unit Projects:                  20%
Unit Tests:                      25%
Final Exam:                     20% 

In-Class Assignments
We will be doing a lot of work in class with the text books and with Atlases. As much as possible, these assignments should be completed in the class time given. Occasionally, you will need to complete the assignments as homework. This portion of your mark is also made up of your participation in class.
Current Events
Looking at Current Events while we are studying History allows us to examine the ways in which the past helps shape the future. Every week you will complete a current events inquiry. I will explain the assignments in class.
Unit Projects
There will be Unit projects throughout the course which will be explained in class as they are assigned.
Unit Tests
Each unit will be followed by a test. These tests will be specifically about the material we have covered in the unit but may require you to remember BIG IDEAS from previous units that we have studied.
Final Exam
The Final Exam for this course will be cumulative, meaning it will cover material from each of the different units.
