Helping Buncombe County Residents Survive
(& Thrive!)
Through Troubled Times
Americans are feeling added stress and anxiety about their financial future as talk of rising consumer debt, falling housing prices, rising costs of living, declining retail sales, and increasing numbers of layoffs and business closings bring up worries about the nation’s economic health.
Money is often on the minds of most Americans. In fact, according to the American Psychological Association’s 2007 Stress in America survey, money and work are two of the top sources of stress for almost 75 percent of Americans. Add to the mix headlines declaring an economic recession, and many begin to fear how they can handle any further financial crunch. North Carolina Cooperative Extension is teaming up with other land-grant universities to help you manage money and stress through these tough times. As part of eXtension (http://www.extension.org), North Carolina Cooperative Extension is able to harness the knowledge of financial and stress management experts from across the country.
The Buncombe County Center of North Carolina Cooperative Extension also offers useful tools such as PowerPay debt reduction calculation software, basic budgeting, home maintenance, and food shopping/preparation workshops, along with agribusiness decision-making tools and many other resources to help families, farmers and agri-business owners weather the current economic downturn successfully.
