About Me

My name is Suresh Nair. I am originally from Pune-India, born and brought up there. I have a lot of treasured memories from Pune from my childhood and youth.  For the last twelve years or so I am living in the Greater Detroit Area in Michigan, USA working for a major automotive company.

I am passionate about Indian music, be it Hindustani Classical, light classical, film songs, bhavgeet, ghazals or any other genre.  Some of my revered singers are Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande, Pt. Kumar Gandharva, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle.  Kishoritai Amonkar is a personal favorite, having lost count of how many times I have heard some of her classical renditions, be it the blissful 'Bhoop',  the soul stirring  'Rageshree' or the 'Malhar Malika'.

My other great passion are books, both in English and Marathi.  I constantly  read a variety of  books,  a lot from  the crime genre but also others by authors as varied as  William Boyd, Toni Morrison, Barbara Kingsolver to name a few. In Marathi Pula Deshpande gets my ultimate salute,  not just for the humor in his writing but for his passion and zeal for so many different forms of art and capacity to live his life fullest by having a rich repertoire of friends, so many of them talented in their own respects.

I am married and have a lovely eight year old daughter, who is equally interested in books and music.  Here in Michigan we are lucky to have a great resource of friends with whom we are actively involved in something or else all the time. They help keep our lives alive. On the other hand my heart does ache for Pune and everybody/ everything back there, relatives, friends and places.

I am thankful to everyone I have met in my life who have sowed the seeds of these passions in me, nourished it and have encouraged me. I owe all of you a lot for that.
