About Us: If your life is going to shows, but you are frustrated on the demanding prices, time, and energy of getting out to the big music festivals that are all over the U.S in the spring/summer, come be a part of something in your local area! The organization is Support The Sound, which puts forth efforts in organizing/booking/and promoting local shows in the area of Connecticut to help raise funds for the big project: (the unofficially named) Milford Music Festival, tentatively for July 2010.
All ticket sales will go towards the festival budget-which includes: Renting a location/venue, Permits/Licensing, Stage/Equipment, Merchandise, Food, Arts/Crafts, and of course the Artists. All performers at the local shows, and the pending festival, are up-and-coming artists/bands across Connecticut, and indie artists/bands that are making some sounds on the local scene around the New England/Mid-Atlantic area. Our festival does not have a name yet-so if you would like to contribute, please send us suggestions on a name! If you would like to participate, please e-mail Mia Becker at miawnhu@gmail.com or Jeremy Kochis at support.thesound@gmail.com
This summer, keep an eye out for the Support The Sound CD Compilation, which will be sold at our shows this summer in July/August 2009! (More info below!)
Why Support the CT music scene? Connecticut, most notable for its cities of New Haven, Hartford, and Bridgeport, has helped nuture many famous bands/musicians, in both the major scene and indie scene. Rivers Cuomo (of Weezer) is from Storrs, CT, Thurston Moore (of Sonic Youth) is from Bethel, CT, Liz Phair is from New Haven, CT, and Mark McGrath (of Sugar Ray) is from Hartford...just to name a few. The New London/New Haven/Hartford, Connecticut music scene is placed between 2 other major scenes: Boston, MA, and of course, a scene that has its own island: New York, NY. For a complete list of "famous musicians from Connecticut" read through this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_from_Connecticut#Musicians
