faq

what should I write?

That's up to you. There are 3 requirements though. The letter must be:
  1. in support of bhikkhuni ordination
  2. not defamatory
  3. without hearsay - that is, stick to what you know directly for yourself.
There is no word limit. Nor any limit to form - except that it must be plain text.

what happens to my letter?

We want to preserve the authenticity of our writers' voices. Letters that meet the above requirements will be uploaded in the letter library unedited.

Each letter is the intellectual property of the writer. We will not use them for any other purpose without permission.

is there anything else I can do to support bhikkhunis?

Yes. Definitely.
  1. Read the Nikayas.
  2. Read the Vinaya.
  3. Read about the history of Buddhism.
  4. Be willing to question interpretations of what the Buddha taught that lead to harm.
  5. Question both those who oppose and support bhikkhuni ordination.
  6. Read this essay by Bhikkhu Bodhi on bhikkhuni ordination.
  7. Become a bhikkhuni!
The Buddha taught that the root cause of suffering is ignorance. Ignorance is dispelled by enquiry and understanding.

who's running this site?

My name is Jason Chan. I live at Santi Forest Monastery in Bundanoon, Australia. This site is an independent endeavour. Independently conceived and run.  But in truth, this site belongs equally to each and every contributer, and is dedicated to all women and men, ordained and lay, who have practised, studied, worked and played to maintain the Buddha's dispensation.
