from David Martin Briggs

Discrimination is something i have fought against all my life as i have faced discrimination throughout my life. I became interested in the Buddha's teachings due to the fact that it didn't discriminate against people just because of their sex, sexual orientation or class. However, having been a Buddhist for 6 years i have come to see that it is not the case. Not that the Buddha himself was but the people who claim to follow his teachings don't see to follow the spirit of Buddhism. For me, Buddhism is becoming another form of the Catholic church, men in total control and power and women under their control and servitude.

There is no hope for Buddhism in the future should this continue. I only hope that one day the shining star of the Buddha's wisdom with become visible again once the clouds of misogyny, discrimination and sexism dissipate and that that star can shine forth for the new generation which hold equality so dear to their hearts.
