The Rekawa Turtle Sanctuary is less than 5 kilometres from my home. I often go there to see how the project is getting on. I usually find a number of young people from all over the world helping out with the project. Green turtles have been coming to the beaches here to lay their eggs for as long as I can remember, but over the years I have noticed that their numbers have got less and less. Large numbers, however, still come to Rekawa and here they are tagged by attaching a transmitter to their backs so that we can discover the routes they follow in their search for food. It is a very interesting project and worth taking a visit. You can find out more about it at http://www.mcsuk.org/marineworld/trackturtle/rekawa |
