Sunnyside Clubhouse (Reading and Math)

Welcome to the Clubhouse!

The school year is winding down, and Friday is the last day that I will be seeing your kids. I'm sending info home in the report cards. If you have any questions, please call me at school by Thursday of next week and I will try to answer them. The kids have been great this year and it has been a real honor to work with them. Have a wonderful summer.

Kids in the Read 180 program should be reading 30 minutes every night, getting a good night's sleep, and be ready to go first thing in the morning. The 30 minutes of reading is a daily homework assignment for each day of the week.

Currently, we are working on Making inferences, as well as how to write a personal narrative. Our vocabulary words for this next unit are: admire, frightened, influence, opportunity, serious, ignore, surround, confusion, imitate and quarrel. The unit we are currently studying is called "No Small Hero." It is about Ruby Bridges, a six year old black girl who breaks the color line at a school in Louisiana. We are also reading Where the Red Fern Grows.  Ask your kids about this book - they really seem to enjoy it.

Establish a routine and get your son or daughter to bed. TV's, computers, and other distractions in the bedroom are a really bad idea, and cheat your child of their best effort. Kids need parents to help them get the sleep they absolutely require and deserve.
