ANNUAL SUMMER GOLF CHALLENGE

 BENEFITTING

 THE FREE MEDICAL CLINIC

The Annual Summer Golf Challenge began in 2003 as the Omega Scholarship Golf Challenge.  The event was then sponsored by the Zeta Gamma Gamma Chapter (Oak Ridge Chapter) of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. with the purpose of raising funds to provide college scholarships for area youth.

In 2008, the event was taken over by the Oak Ridge Hoofers Golf Group and the Xi Iota Omega Chapter (Oak Ridge Chapter) of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the name was changed to the Annual Summer Golf Challenge.  The Omegas joined forces with the group as a sponsor in 2012 .

A decision was made in 2014 that the primary beneficiary of the proceeds from the tournament would be the Free Medical Clinic which lead to its name being added to the tournament name.  Since that time, the Tournament has been an annual fundraiser which provides vital resources to the Free Medical Clinic which serves Anderson, Roane, and Morgan counties.   In addition, a portion of the proceeds are still used to provide educational scholarships to needy youth in the nearby communities.
