Clear communication is a powerful tool!

Advertisers, magazines, newspapers, public speakers and community groups all want to reach a particular audience. Who do you want to reach? What message do you want to deliver? A professional writer can give you the answers you're looking for.

You want to put your best foot forward with clear, concise language. Sue Deschene can declutter your message by cleaning and polishing your own writing, or crafting her own text to suit your needs. Sue's skills include writing, editing and photography in a vast array of print media.

Experience counts!

Sue started her writing career with Drum Corps World in 1981, covering drum corps and winter guard contests. In 1987, she joined the staff of The Messenger newspaper in Madisonville, Ky., where she worked as a staff writer for 10 years, covering a wide range of beats: education, business, health, politics, the arts and human interest features.

In 1997, Sue moved to Brockville, Ont., and delved into fiction writing, working on short stories and a novel. For five years, she also served as communications chair for Brockville Women's Network, writing, editing, designing and distributing the group's monthly newsletter and news releases. Sue served as BWN's president during the 2008-2009 membership year.

In 2004, Sue began writing for a variety of special projects published by The Recorder and Times newspaper in Brockville, everything from advertorials to features in All About Your Home, Health Focus, Hometown Heroes, Industrial Showcase and the Great Kids Contest ("Against the Odds" category). Over time, her responsibilities grew to include photography and editing for all of these publications.

Sue has also written, edited and taken photos for Real Life magazine, published by The Recorder and Times, since its inception in 2005. As project manager for the Spring 2009 issue of Real Life, Sue edited and organized all editorial content, and also submitted her own feature story with photos. Since 2005, Sue has also edited and organized all editorial content for All About Your Home, a home improvement guide published by The Recorder and Times.

From August 2010 to January 2011, Sue handled a wide variety of freelance writing and photography assignments for The Recorder and Times' editorial department. From December 2010 to February 2011, she also assisted the advertising department in preparing its 2011 large-print telephone directory for publication. Besides doing extensive editing on the "Community Pages" section of the phone book and proofreading other sections, Sue also managed the flow of ad revisions between advertising sales representatives and the pagination staff, tracking each ad's progress toward final approval by the client.

In March 2011, Sue and her husband moved to Shelburne, N.S., where the adventure continues!
