PART II. INTRODUCING THE SCHOOL

2. Number of students in class and school: The number of students in class ranges from 28 to 33. There are 26 classes this year and about 800 students in our school.

3. Size of school: The building is quite old and tall and has four floors. It is located in the centre of the city with many other secondary schools in the vicinty.

4. School emblem, colors or mascot:

On it there is the acronym of the school and in the background  on the hill there is the Castle of Ljubljana because our school is located at the foot of it.

6. School history:

The school was founded in 1949 as a two-year administrative school. With the career-oriented school reform in the 1980's, the Centre was given its current name - Secondary School of Administration It provided two-year programmes Administrative Junior Clerk and Administrative Worker, and a four-year programme Administrative Assistant /Assistant for Governmental Institutions. To comply with the rapid development and current needs in the 1990's, the two-year programmes were replaced with a three-year and a five-year programme of Business Operations, leading to the qualifications Business Secretary and Business Assistant. The programmes were modernized in the school year 2000/01 by introducing a renewed programme of Economics Assistant, which lasts four or five school years.

B. School program

1. List 3 things about your school program that make it unique. 

Firstly, students learn to touch-type, and some are very good at it, regarding speed and accuracy. Secondly, they gain practical experience in a so-called Educational Enterprise, where in four lessons a week in the third and fourth year, they learn how to set up a company, which documents are necessary for that, how to do business etc.

Thirdly, they can take part in various school clubs and courses, and go on excursions to different parts of Slovenia and abroad, which is the best part of school life.

A. Your community

1. Name of your community: Ljubljana and its surroundings

2. If not a city, name and size of nearest city:  Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia. Ljubljana is an old town, founded by the Romans in 1st century. It's got a romantic Old Town in the city centre.

3. Location of your community : in the centre of the country

4. The area of your community: 300 square kilometres

5. The population of your community: 350,000 - 400,000.The community is quite colourful with many immigrants from Bosnia and Kosovo.

Slovenia is a small country (20,273 km² / 7,827 sq m) in the heart of Europe and it is a member of the European Union.  The population of the whole Slovenia is only 2 million!

B. Special characteristics

1. List 3 reasons why people come to visit your area. Tourists come to see the capital, of course. In fact, the whole country can be done in a day! But you shouldn't be in a rush because our country is amazingly beautiful and diverse: there are the Alps in  the north and the Adriatic Sea in the south-west and in late May you can ski in the morning, drive 200 kilometres and have a swim in the sea in the afternoon! In the eastern parts of Slovenia there are many small spas and wineyard hils.

2. Describe any unusual land formation found in or near your community. The characteristics of our area may be the hill with the Ljubljana Castle and the Marshes in the outskirts of the city.

C. Industries

List major industries or occupations in your community. As the central and capital city there are all the most important institutions such as schools, universities, hospitals, governmental institutions, but also  factories and customer service companies. In Ljubljana we now have 6 major industries: food industry, steel industry, dairy industry,electronic industry, clothing and package industry. And a lot of people work there. The most important is the food industry. And agriculture industry is going to be the most important. The most wanted jobs are a marketing and sales manager, chemist, civil engineer, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, doctor, pharmacist.

PART IV. WHO IS A HERO?

Please have the students open a discussion about who inspires them…what is a hero? Who is a hero? How should one choose a hero? 

We are inspired by people who help other people and animals, great sportsmen and athletes who have achieved world records, talented celebrities who are beautiful and generous, and all those people whose achievements make the world a better place.

ABOUT US

My name is Tina and I was born on 12.6.1991 in Ljubljana. I'm 18 years old. I am visiting the third year of Secondary School of Administration. In elementary school I trained karate for four years. I stopped, when I started to attend high school. In high school I was practising hip hop for some time. In the future I intend to study law. I wish to do a doctorate in law.
If I fail to study law, I will study economics. I want to become a successful lawyer, and start my own business. One day I want to become a politician, and run for a mayor of Ljubljana. I want to travel all over the world. I want to visit Bulgaria, Spain, Turkey, Greece, tropical islands, Russia … I want to learn many languages: Bulgarian, Albanian, Spanish, Italian ... I want to have two children. I don't want to have children until I am financially independent. I want to give my children the best life possible. I want a similar relationship with my children to the one I have with my parents. I will not give up until I make all my dreams come true.

My name is Kristian, I'm a 17-year-old boy. I will be 18 in 2 month's time. I live in a chicken-shaped country, called Slovenia, more precisely in Vrhnika. I'm visiting high school (Secondary School of Administration) and will become an economics assistant. After finishing high school, I would like to succeed in managment. From all sports, I prefer football, I've been training it for 10 years. In addition to football, I like travelling and exploring new places, but most of all, getting to know new people AND PARTYING A LOT.

My name is Mateja Oresic. I was born in Ljubljana. In those years me and my family lived in Menges. My mother`s name is Irena and my father is Radovan. I have 2 half-brothers. One is 33 years old (he is 15 years older than me), his name is Gorazd, and the other one is 27, his name is Radek. Radek and Gorazd are the sons from my parents' previous marriages. In Menges we lived in a flat. When I was 4, I visited a kindergarten in Menges and after that a primary school in Mengeš until 5^th class. Then we moved to Trojane in a two-storied house. On the upper part of the house, I live with my mom, downstairs live my brother, with his girlfriend and 2 sons. After we moved, I started to go to the primary school in Brdo pri Lukovici. I finished that school with a grade B. After primary school I visited a grammar school in Celje, and I was living in a hall of residence in Celje, but I dropped out after 6 months because of personal reasons. I worked for the next 6 months in Trojane, in the kitchen of a restaurant washing dirty dishes, which may sound easy, but it was quite difficult. Then I started to visit a high school in Ljubljana named SUAS (Secondary School of Administration). The first year I finished with a grade A ,and in the second year I had a grade B. Now I am in the third year. I have high hopes for this year because I have very big expectations for college.
