I graduated with honors from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois with a degree in psychology in 2000. I received my Masters in Clinical/Counseling Psychology from Illinois State University in 2002. During my studies for this degree, I received specialized graduate training in workplace psychology and conducted research on sexual identity issues.

I spent one year working in a group home for behaviorally disordered youth where I gained practical experience in working with adolescent issues and their family systems.  

During my practicum experience at Illinois State, I counseled college students on a variety of issues and received intensive supervision. I also worked at an Employee Assistance Program where I performed triage counseling, case management, and worked intensively with mental health providers, client companies, and insurance companies. Further, I gained experience as a group trainer where I trained on issues such as work place supervisorial coaching and stress management. 

After receiving my graduate degree, I spent four years assessing and treating individuals seeking substance abuse treatment services on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. I trained on many life-skill issues such as decision-making, communication and assertiveness skills, stress management, and coping mechanisms. Further, I provided individual, group, and family counseling. 

Before entering private practice, I spent over a year as a project coordinator and trainer specializing in assessment of individuals with mental health and substance abuse issues. My area of expertise was in the clinical interpretation of assessment. 

Since entering private practice, I have seen a variety of individuals. I have a client-centered practice where I use the most appropriate approach and techniques to fit the individual clients that I see. Although I treat individuals, couples, and families for a variety of issues, my areas of expertise are sexual identity development and counseling, addiction counseling, and life skills coaching.
