Through all of the reading, lessons and various activities and assignments, the students in Room 12 should come away with new ideas and clear statements about Surviving and Persevering Despite Obstacles. They should be similar to those listed below: 1. Students will understand that people who
persevere despite obstacles rely on their instincts and have courage. 2. Students will learn that being resourceful and innovative is a part of survival. 3. Students will understand that perseverance consists of setting goals and dreams and despite setbacks, those goals and dreams can still be accomplished. The students in Room 12 will also be learning specific skills directly related to reading, writing and the overall unit theme. They should be similar to those listed below: 1. Students will be able to understand story elements, specifically being able to identify what characters look like, how they act, and how they solve problems when they need to persevere. 2. Students will be able to use prior knowledge to show connections between self and text to understand how people persevere. 3. Students will be able to demonstrate how to write in different forms/genres. |
